Project 02 / Unbuilt concept study

Stone House.

Solid enclosure and carefully placed openings give this home a quiet relationship with its surroundings.

Architecture / Residential

The intention

A sense of permanence.

How can a solid enclosure admit light without losing its sense of privacy?

Stone House begins with the depth of the wall. Solid planes establish privacy and a sense of shelter, while a small number of openings bring light and outlook to the places that need them.

Rather than treating every view equally, the arrangement gives each room a particular relationship with its surroundings. A long outlook belongs to a shared space; a closer view of planting belongs to a quieter one.

Natural variation in stone softens the geometry. Warm timber and restrained interior surfaces allow that texture to remain the defining element.
